چکیده

Nucleation and growth kinetics give valuable information about the crystal growth process, which can be employed in the growth of large size crystals. Accordingly, this paper discusses nucleation theory as applied to crystallizing negative solubility lithium sulphate monohydrate (LSMH) crystal. Solubility, metastable zone and induction period values were determined experimentally in order to optimize the growth parameters. The nucleation parameters such as interfacial energy, volume free energy, critical free energy and critical radius have been evaluated. The results have been discussed in detail. The good quality single crystal of LSMH was grown by the low temperature solution growth technique. The growth and dislocation behaviors were detected under the etching studies. It is shown that the classical approach explains the available nucleation data under most conditions used for growing LSMH crystals. & 2014 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Growth of monosodium urate monohydrate crystals: effect of cartilage and synovial fluid components on in vitro growth rates.

The effects of cartilage and synovial fluid components such as proteoglycans, chondroitin sulphate, hyaluronic acid, phospholipids, and albumin on the growth kinetics of monosodium urate monohydrate (MSUM) crystals were investigated. MSUM seed crystals were added to supersaturated sodium urate solutions, and the rate of decrease in the concentration of growth medium was used as a measure of the...

Studies on the Optical, Mechanical and Dielectric Properties of Nonlinear Optical Single Crystal Bis (Guanidinium) Hydrogen Phosphate Monohydrate (G2HP)

Single crystals of nonlinear optical material bis (guanidinium) hydrogen phosphate monohydrate (G2HP) belonging to non centrosymmetric space group P 21c were successfully grown by the slow evaporation method. Optical transmittance and second harmonic generation of the grown crystals have been studied by UV-vis-NIR spectrum and Kurtz powder technique respectively. The transmittance of G2HP cryst...

4-Aminoquinaldine monohydrate polymorphism: Prediction and impurity aided discovery of a difficult to access stable form.

Crystal structure prediction studies indicated the existence of an unknown high density monohydrate structure (Hy1B°) as global energy minimum for 4-aminoquinaldine (4-AQ). We thus performed an interdisciplinary experimental and computational study elucidating the crystal structures, solid form inter-relationships, kinetic and thermodynamic stabilities of the stable anhydrate (AH I°), the kinet...

Crystal size distribution in metamorphic rocks: an example for the relationship between nucleation and growth rates with overstepping

Crystal size distribution (CSD) in metamorphic rocks provide fundamental information about crystal nucleation and growth rate, growth time and the degree of overstepping. CSD data for garnet, staurolite, kyanite and andalusite crystals from the aureole demonstrate that the earliest formed of these minerals, garnet, has the highest population density and the shortest growth time. The last formed...
